The Ely American Legion is sponsoring the Fifth Grade Flag Essay Contest. The Fifth Grade Flag Essay Contest will help youth develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of the United States flag and teach proper etiquette and respect for the flag. All local fifth graders are encouraged to submit entries.
Mary Grace Ciaccia won the local, district, inter district Oratorical Contests; Sarah Maseychik was first-place winner of the Essay Contest, Elizabeth Katulka was second-place winner of the Essay Contest, and Ava Groth was third -place winner of the Essay Contest.
Arrangements for contests leading up to the department finals shall be the responsibility of each American Legion department. For competition prior to the department finals, the contest rules and regulations are not mandatory; they are offered as guidelines. However, all department finals contests shall conform with national contest procedures, rules and regulations.
For the senior winners in the four contests (two posters, one essay and one poetry), the Legion sponsors a trip to Ottawa to attend the National Remembrance Day Service.
